Transflo forms culture committee, ENGAGE
Ruth McGuire (Vice President/Controller) and Emily Stratton (Director of Customer Solutions) participated in a Q&A about the Engage committee and its goals.
Q.
What is Engage and what is its mission?
A.
Engage helps build upon Transflo’s culture by connecting our staff across functions, departments, and borders. The mission is to network, share experiences, give back to our communities, support causes that matter to our people, and have fun doing it.
Engage is led by our people, for our people.
– Ruth McGuire
Q.
How did Engage get started?
A.
Out of a desire to connect our employees. Transflo is going through an exciting period of rapid growth, and with that our employee base is growing across North America. With so many new faces, we wanted to come up with a way to make sure we are staying connected and building those relationships, even in the remote environments we now operate. It’s important to not only be productive together but to have fun too. – Emily Stratton
Q. What does Engage currently have planned?
A.
There are three areas of focus for Engage: Culture, Community, and Environment. When we plan events, we want them to be fun, but we also love to involve our communities and the planet too.
Currently, Transflo is “Turkey Trotting.” To help bring us together across borders we decided to use Canadian Thanksgiving and US Thanksgiving as bookends to the event. Employees are challenged to rack up miles (or KM) either walking or running. Transflo is matching miles with dollars. Proceeds are being donated to our local charities to support those in need during the holiday season.

Q. Why is Engage important to our organization?
The most important part of a company is the people. We want to see our cross-border employee base thrive and grow. We are out to attract and retain the best people.
One of our company values is “be innovative.” That innovation is enabled by the different points of view and experiences of our talented workforce – and that is what makes us a market leader. In an increasingly remote-work world, we are building a culture and community that people want to be a part of.
– Emily Stratton
Q.
What do employees get out of being a part of Engage?
A.
Relationships, being a part of a community that cares, and some fun too.
– Ruth McGuire
Q.
How does Engage affect outside stakeholders in the community?
A.
Our community team identifies opportunities throughout the year for us to get together and volunteer. We strive to support and donate to causes that are meaningful to our employees.
– Ruth McGuire
Q.
How do you think having this group is going to change Transflo within the next year?
A.
One year from now Engage will be the foundation upon which company traditions are built. Traditions that employees look forward to and want to be a part of. Next year we are going to continue growing relationships to enable collaboration, knowledge sharing, and creativity companywide.
