What All Fleets Should Know About the Upcoming Canada ELD Mandate
There are similarities and differences between the U.S. and Canada ELD regulations and verification.
For Canada, there is a third-party verification required for ELD providers. This is to help ensure ELD compliance, safety, efficiency, and prevent tampering. The third-party verification is the main difference between the Canada ELD mandate versus the US one which uses a self-certified process (more on that below).
Canada has been ironing out the details on their ELD mandate for the last few years, but time is almost up with all carriers operating within Canadian borders required to have installed ELDs in all trucks by June 12, 2021.

Checkout the following video by GEOTAB (Transflo ELD Partner) that highlights key differences between U.S & Canadian mandates:

Please Note: Currently there is no plan for a “grandfather period” after the strict June 12, 2021 deadline. While there has been some speculation and assumptions going around the industry that this will take place because it did during the U.S. ELD mandate rollout – it’s safer to assume this will NOT occur for the Canadian ELD mandate.
